We want your input and opinion.
Needler's Mill, the Millpond and the Millbrook dam in Millbrook, Ontario, are currently undergoing an Environmental Assessment. This means that an Engineering and environmental firm is studying the dam and will recommend a solution to some concerns by the owner. A solution may include repairing, replacing or even removing the dam.
Part of the EA involves public consultation. This is your chance to share comments, ideas and suggestions. What do you want for our mill, pond and dam?
There can be no mill without a dam. The dam, in 2004, was identified as having “high hazard potential”. The integrity of the Millbrook Dam is the responsibility of the Otonabee Region Conservation Authority. The future of the dam is the subject of discussion and study by the Millbrook Dam/Needler’s Mill Future Directions Advisory Committee, along with consideration of Needler’s Mill. The Needler’s Mill Group (blog) supports extensive repairs to the dam and adjacent berm, or replacement with a structure in keeping with the surrounding heritage features. The dam, the millpond and the mill are inextricably intertwined and are an integral part of the village and region.
